A 12-unit classroom block with auxiliary facilities has been inaugurated in Nasuan, North East Region, Ghana, for the establishment of a community day Senior High School (SHS) dedicated to girls.
The building was funded by the Ghana Gas Company, as an initiative of Mr. Oscar Liwaal, Member of Parliament for the Yunyoo Constituency.
Speaking at the inauguration, Mr. Liwaal credited Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for securing the Ghana Gas Company's support for the project, which was completed within 17 months.
He assured that the school would be operational in the next academic year, with plans underway to provide the necessary resources for its functioning.
Mr. Zakaria Yidana, North East Regional Minister, expressed gratitude to the Ghana Gas Company for the gesture and appealed to landlords to provide accommodation for students and teachers since the school would be a day school.
He also urged the company to support the school with furniture and a bungalow for the headmaster.
Mr. Konlan Bitian, Yunyoo Nasuan District Chief Executive, emphasized that the initiative aimed to make education accessible to rural children and contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) four, which focuses on quality education.
He highlighted that the intervention would address geographic disparities in secondary education in the district.
The officials expressed their appreciation for the support and called for further efforts to expand the school's facilities and accommodate more students in the future.
