His longstanding support for education and human capital development has earned him national admiration. GTEC noted that his dedication to creating opportunities for others and contributing to Ghana’s socio-economic progress makes him an ideal choice for this prestigious role.

As Chancellor, Mr Sarpong is expected to provide strategic inspiration and guidance to the UniMAC community.

His vision and wealth of experience are anticipated to strengthen the university’s pursuit of academic excellence, creativity, ethical leadership, innovation, and institutional growth.

The University of Media, Arts and Communication plays a critical role in training the next generation of professionals in journalism, media, arts, public relations, and communication.

In an era of rapid technological advancement and evolving media landscapes, strong leadership at the helm is essential for maintaining high standards and relevance.

GTEC expressed confidence that Mr Sarpong’s stewardship will help UniMAC advance its mandate of teaching, research, innovation, and public service while upholding the traditions and reputation of Ghana’s public universities.

The Commission emphasised the important role Chancellors play in safeguarding institutional integrity and driving long-term aspirations. It looks forward to Mr Sarpong’s contributions toward building a world-class tertiary education system that is excellent, innovative, and responsive to national development needs.

The statement concluded with best wishes for success and fulfilment in his new responsibility, signed on behalf of the Governing Board, Management, and Staff of GTEC by the Corporate Affairs Directorate.

Mr Ernest Ofori Sarpong’s appointment brings seasoned private sector insight into the governance of a public university.

Such cross-pollination between business acumen and academia is increasingly valued as Ghana seeks to strengthen industry-academia linkages, promote innovation, and produce graduates who are ready for the job market. His philanthropic background is also expected to attract further support and partnerships for UniMAC.

As Mr Sarpong assumes office, stakeholders anticipate a renewed focus on quality, creativity, and relevance at UniMAC. GTEC’s congratulatory message reflects the broader national commitment to building a robust tertiary education system that drives innovation, fosters critical thinking, and contributes meaningfully to Ghana’s development agenda.
