Ghana Athletics President, Bawah Fuseini, has announced plans to organise a National Inter-Schools Championships following the impressive performances at the recently concluded Regional Super Zonals in the Central and Ashanti Regions.
The competitions, held in Cape Coast and Kumasi, showcased outstanding talent, with top schools such as Mfantsipim School and Prempeh College dominating the track and field events. Among the standout athletes was Joseph Andoh Kwofie of Mfantsipim, who has been tipped as a future star for Ghana athletics.
The high level of competition has fueled calls for a national event to further develop young athletes. Speaking to JoySports, Bawah Fuseini confirmed that discussions are already underway with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to make the National Inter-Schools Championships a reality.
“Just imagine the excitement from the Ashanti Region and Cape Coast—if we bring all these athletes together for a National Inter-Schools Championship, the atmosphere will be incredible,” Fuseini said.
He further revealed that talks have begun with the Director-General of GES to organise the championship in either Kumasi or Cape Coast.
“The goal is to bring together the best-performing schools from the Super Zonals and create a pathway for them to compete at the African level,” he added.
