According to him, this allocation is insufficient to address the extensive damage caused by the flooding resulting from the spillage of excess water from the Akosombo Dam.
He emphasized that the damages run into billions of Ghana cedis, with entire houses destroyed.
This reaction came after Mpraeso MP, Davis Ansah Opoku, informed Parliament that the Volta River Authority (VRA) had released GH¢2.86 million to the Volta River Resettlement Fund while claiming that certain NDC members were overseeing the Fund.
However, Mr. Ablakwa acknowledged the existence of the Fund but emphasized that it had been abandoned for decades.
He criticized the government for failing to ensure that the Fund was adequately resourced, asserting that it would have provided alternative livelihoods and support for the affected communities if it had been operational.
He also noted that the money was distributed after the disaster, and the Fund has not been disbursed to the affected areas.
