The Upper West Regional House of Chiefs has pledged its support for the upcoming “Gun Amnesty” initiative, recognising the threat illegal firearms pose to national peace and security.
Speaking in Wa, Naa Puowelle Karbo III, President of the House, assured that traditional leaders would use their authority to sensitise communities, encourage the surrender or registration of firearms, and promote public safety.

The initiative, set to launch on November 11, 2025, allows gun owners six weeks to register or surrender their weapons without fear of prosecution. Charles Lwanga Puozuing, Upper West Regional Minister, emphasised that anyone failing to comply after the amnesty period would face legal action.
