The Ministry of Health, Ghana has announced that it has secured financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance, Ghana for the payment of allowances and salaries for 14,279 rotation nurses and midwives and 637 medical and dental house officers.
This clearance comes after sustained engagement between the two ministries to ensure that newly trained health professionals receive timely support as they undertake their mandatory service and professional training.

The announcement was made by Tony Goodman, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, on 13th March 2026.
The financial approval covers key nursing cadres, including Registered General Nurses, Registered Midwives, Registered Mental Health Nurses, Registered Community Health Nurses, and Registered Public Health Nurses, who began their rotation last year and are set to complete it this year.
Additionally, salaries for 637 Medical and Dental House Officers,graduates who have passed the Medical and Dental Council examinations and were inducted on 12th November 2025,have also been cleared.
The Ministry stated that these approvals will eliminate previous payment backlogs and facilitate a new policy of monthly allowances for health professionals during their mandatory service, replacing the previous system of lump-sum payments at the end of service for nurses, pharmacists, and allied health professionals.
The Ministry of Health emphasized its commitment to working closely with the Ministry of Finance and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that health workers are adequately supported in delivering quality healthcare services across Ghana.
