A major fire at the Accra Water Works area, opposite the Accra Central Police Station, has destroyed 32 rooms at the Accra Central Police Barracks Annex and a one-storey building.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), firefighters from the Accra City Fire Station responded to a distress call received at 8:05 p.m.

They arrived at the scene two minutes later to find the fire fully developed.
Reinforcements from the Ministries, Parliament, Industrial Area and Circle Fire Stations, supported by an Assembly water tanker, joined efforts to contain the blaze.
The fire was confined at 10:29 p.m., brought under control at 11:50 p.m. and fully extinguished at 3:41 a.m. without any fatalities.
The GNFS said one firefighter sustained critical injuries during the operation and was conveyed to the Police Hospital for treatment. He is currently in stable condition and responding well to treatment.
The Service noted that the fire extensively damaged 32 rooms and their contents at the Accra Central Police Barracks Annex, as well as a one-storey building and its contents.
Despite the intensity of the fire, firefighters successfully prevented it from spreading to nearby facilities of Ghana Water Limited and other adjoining structures.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
