Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Lomotey has completed a move to Swedish champions Malmö FF, signing a four-and-a-half-year contract with the Allsvenskan club.

The 24-year-old joins Malmö from French Ligue 2 side Amiens after completing an undisclosed transfer.

Lomotey, who was part of the Ghana squad that qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, joined Amiens in 2020 and established himself as a key player, featuring primarily as a central midfielder while also making appearances in central defence.

Malmö FF said the Ghana international had been on the club’s radar for some time before they secured his signature.

Speaking after the transfer was confirmed, Lomotey expressed his delight at joining Sweden’s most successful club.

“I feel great pride. Malmö FF is the biggest club in Sweden, so I am happy to be here and looking forward to starting training with the team,” he said.

“I think I have qualities and attributes that will help the team. The goal is to help Malmö FF win titles and play group games in Europe. Together with my teammates, we will achieve as much as we can.”

Malmö FF’s sporting director, Daniel Andersson, said the club had monitored Lomotey for a long period but only recently had the opportunity to complete the signing.

“Emmanuel is a player we have known for a long time but who we did not think was possible to connect with us until the last week,” Andersson said.

“He is a central midfielder and has all the qualities that we think are important for that position. He is a physical type of player who is also skilled in both the long and short passing game.”

Lomotey has signed a contract that will keep him at Malmö FF until the end of 2026 and is expected to play a key role as the club seeks to defend its Swedish league title and compete in European competitions.
