The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has launched an investigation into a shooting incident at the Sogakope Customs checkpoint on February 19, 2025, which left a bystander injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement issued on February 20, the GRA assured the public of a thorough probe to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident. The authority also expressed sympathy for those affected and reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of all stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the GRA, Customs officers at the checkpoint had received intelligence about a suspected uncustomed Mercedes-Benz E350 sedan being smuggled into Ghana from Togo. When officers attempted to intercept the vehicle, the occupants abandoned it and fled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To prevent their escape, the officers fired warning shots, but a stray bullet reportedly struck a bystander a few meters from the checkpoint.
