The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has announced that a member of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) who was shot during an anti-illegal mining operation in January has fully recovered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement issued on February 26, 2026, NAIMOS confirmed that Lance Corporal Morris Addae, who sustained a gunshot wound to the thigh, is now in good health and preparing to resume duty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident occurred on January 20, 2026, when unknown assailants reportedly opened fire on a NAIMOS task force team during an operation along the Subinkurom\u2013Kyeremasu stretch in the Dormaa Central Municipality of the Bono Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The operation formed part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the shooting, L\/Cpl Addae was rushed to St. Matthew Catholic Hospital in Ampenkuro, where he received emergency treatment. After several weeks of intensive medical care and rehabilitation, he has successfully recovered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During a visit on February 26, L\/Cpl Addae expressed appreciation to the sector minister, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Member of Parliament, the leadership of NAIMOS, and well-wishers for their support throughout his recovery period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The delegation that visited him was led by NAIMOS Director of Operations, Colonel Dominic Buah, who commended the soldier\u2019s bravery and dedication to duty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
