Transport Minister hails KLM’s six decades of service and contribution to Ghana’s aviation growth

Ghana’s Minister for Transport, Mr Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has praised Air France–KLM for its outstanding contribution to the nation’s aviation sector and its pivotal role in enhancing air connectivity between Ghana and the Netherlands over the past 65 years.

Delivering the commendation in a speech read on his behalf by Mr Eric Tetteh-Addison, Director for Policy and Planning at the Ministry, Mr Nikpe said the airline’s long-standing commitment to high-quality service had significantly boosted travel, trade, tourism, and investment flows.

The remarks were made during the 65th anniversary celebration of the airline’s operations in Accra.

KLM, which began flying to Ghana on November 1, 1960, has expanded in tandem with Ghana’s economic development, continuously adjusting to evolving customer demands. The airline currently operates daily flights between Amsterdam and Accra, linking travellers to more than 160 destinations worldwide.

The Minister noted that KLM’s dedication had made the brand synonymous with dependability and innovation, earning the trust of millions of travellers and businesses.

He emphasised that the airline’s presence in Ghana had generated jobs, supported local enterprises, facilitated international commerce, and promoted tourism and cultural exchange, all of which have deepened bilateral relations between the two countries.

Reaffirming government’s commitment to partnering with private sector players, Mr Nikpe said efforts would continue to create an enabling environment that supports aviation growth, tourism expansion and economic development.

He congratulated KLM on its milestone and expressed confidence in continued collaboration, noting that the airline’s focus on safety and innovation continues to inspire excellence within Ghana’s aviation landscape.

Madam Isabelle Indeweij Gerlings, Air France–KLM Country Manager for Ghana, highlighted the airline’s contributions beyond aviation, including investments in local talent and support for community programmes in education, sustainability and women’s empowerment. She appreciated Ghana’s hospitality over the decades and expressed optimism for “the next 65 years and more.”
