Foreign Affairs Minister-nominee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has assured that if confirmed, he will ensure the government remains committed to assisting 156 Ghanaians facing imminent deportation from the United States. The development follows U.S. President Donald Trump‘s recent executive order challenging birthright citizenship.
Ablakwa made the revelation during his appearance before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Friday. The executive order aims to end the practice of automatically granting citizenship to individuals born on U.S. soil, known as birthright citizenship.
He stressed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would engage with U.S. authorities to ensure the rights and dignity of the affected individuals are respected. Ablakwa confirmed that all necessary measures would be taken to provide support to those impacted by the executive order.
