A devastating fire tore through the Sunyani main garage in the early hours of Friday, causing extensive damage to property and personal belongings valued at thousands of Ghana cedis.
The cause of the inferno remains unknown, but it ravaged a warehouse containing vehicle spare parts, multiple mechanic shops, and two residential apartments. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties.
During a visit to the scene, the Ghana News Agency (GNA) observed affected mechanics and scrap dealers attempting to salvage what remained from the debris.
In an interview with the GNA, the affected mechanics pleaded for government assistance to help them rebuild their shops.
Eyewitness Isaac Yeboah recounted that the fire broke out around 0100-0130 hours, and despite efforts by some mechanics to contain it, their attempts were futile.
By the time personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service arrived, the flames had already engulfed several shops, exacerbating the damage caused by the inferno.
