A devastating fire outbreak at Kotobabi Abavana Down has resulted in the destruction of the well-known ‘Angel Bread Bakery' and several wooden structures, causing significant financial losses. The inferno engulfed bags of flour, packs of sugar, buckets of margarine, and container shops, among other items. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Eyewitnesses at the scene attribute the fire, which began around 1pm on Sunday, to an unattended gas source. They recount their efforts to contain the flames before the arrival of the firefighting team. Multiple fire service tenders were required to extinguish the fire completely.

Emmanuel Awotse, an eyewitness, shared his account with Citi News, stating, “The fire started around 1pm. Myself and some other boys joined forces to suppress the fire as best as we could before the firefighters arrived. Although I cannot estimate the monetary value of the losses, I know that yesterday, Saturday, a truck had delivered a shipment of flour, so there must have been considerable financial losses. Several neighboring stores, including a provision shop, tailor's shop, makeup shop, and the baker's house, were all engulfed in the blaze.”

ADOII Alex Nartey, from the Public Relations Department at the Fire Service Headquarters, provided additional details about the incident. He explained that their team received a distress call regarding the fire at Abavana Down. Unfortunately, the fire station in Abelemkpe was already en route to Lapaz-New Boi Town, so firefighters from the Circle fire station were summoned to respond. Despite the logistical challenges, the firefighting team arrived promptly and worked tirelessly to control the flames, although the fire had already spread to adjacent wooden structures. Fortunately, no residential buildings were affected. While properties, bakery equipment, and personal belongings were lost, there were no reported injuries or fatalities.

ADOII Alex Nartey took the opportunity to remind Ghanaians to prioritize safety. With the rainy season upon us, he urged bakeries and the general public to remain vigilant and adopt fire safety measures. He emphasized the importance of being each other's keepers and staying informed about proper fire prevention and response techniques.

In a separate incident on the same day, a similar fire outbreak occurred in the Circle area, highlighting the increased risk during this period and reinforcing the need for heightened awareness and precautionary measures.
