Achimota College Suburb in Okaikwei North Constituency Hit by Destructive Afternoon Blaze
A devastating fire incident in Achimota College, a suburb in the Okaikwei North Constituency, has left several residents grappling with significant losses as about 15 structures were engulfed in flames on Wednesday afternoon. The aftermath of the fire has resulted in substantial damage to properties, including television sets, refrigerators, and even a car.
Affected residents are now recounting their losses, with one individual sharing the heartbreaking story of losing everything while away attending to a sick family member. “I travelled to attend to my mum, who is not well. I was called around 2 pm and was informed about the fire incident. I lost everything. My three deep freezers, which I moved here to start my water business, are also burnt,” the resident lamented.
Another victim managed to salvage only a few belongings, stating, “I managed to salvage only one out of the four bags in our room. Everything is gone. An amount of 4,000gh was stolen when I brought some of my items outside.”
Local authorities, including Member of Parliament Honourable Theresa Lardi Awuni and other constituency officials, have reportedly come to the aid of the affected residents, providing assistance in the wake of the tragic incident.
The community is now left to grapple with the aftermath of the fire outbreak, as affected individuals receive support and efforts are made to assess the full extent of the damage.
