In a joint operation between the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the Ghana Police Service, a notorious human trafficking syndicate has been apprehended. The successful operation, driven by valuable intelligence, led to the arrest of forty-nine Nigerian nationals.
EOCO, in a recent statement, revealed that the suspects, comprising forty-seven men and two women aged between 18 and 34, were apprehended in Accra. The arrested individuals are believed to be key players in the illicit activities of human trafficking and cybercrime.
During the operation, law enforcement officials discovered and seized a significant amount of evidence from the syndicate's hideout. The seized items include 70 laptop computers, 2 saloon cars, 51 mobile phones, 9 internet modems, and various other devices. These discoveries provide crucial evidence for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Upon closer examination and screening of the suspects, authorities determined that forty-five of them were victims of human trafficking, while the remaining four individuals were identified as traffickers. The victims, who endured unimaginable hardships, have been rescued and are being repatriated to Nigeria. They will soon be reunited with their families, bringing hope and relief to their loved ones.
The four alleged traffickers, named Godstine Omoruyi, Junior Nosa Omoruyi, Marvelous Omoruyi, and Evbuomwan Idowu, have been brought before the court to face legal proceedings. Their arrest and subsequent appearance in court mark a significant step in Ghana's commitment to combating human trafficking and bringing justice to the victims.
The Economic and Organised Crime Office, in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, remains resolute in its efforts to root out such criminal networks and ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens. The successful operation serves as a reminder that Ghana's law enforcement agencies are dedicated to upholding the rule of law and protecting vulnerable individuals from the clutches of human trafficking.
