Google has released its annual Zeitgeist report, which provides a look at the year 2012 based on Google searches conducted in Ghana.

According to the report, Ghanaians were more interested in entertainment than politics, even though the country was just a few days away from one of the most competitive elections in its history.

Searches for terms like ‘Azonto dance' and ‘Sarkodie' were more popular than any presidential candidate or political party.

Other popular searches included Whitney Houston and Eddie Murphy, whose death hoax was circulating on social networking sites.

The search trends suggest that Ghanaians care about the craft and well-being of their favourite stars.

In addition to entertainment, Ghanaians also searched for sports-related terms, such as ‘Usain ', ‘Olympics 2012′, ‘Euro 2012 fixtures' and ‘Van Persie'. These searches indicate that Ghanaians have a strong love for sports, particularly football.
