A Technical Team led by the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security of ECOWAS, Amb. Abdel-Fatau Musah, designated by the President of the ECOWAS Commission, paid a two-day working visit to the Republic of Ghana from 15th to 16th May 2023.
During their visit, the Technical Team engaged in a series of important meetings with key stakeholders in Ghana. The visits included discussions at the Ministry of National Security, the Executive Secretariat of the Accra Initiative, General Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces, and the Headquarters of the Multinational Joint Task Force in Tamale.
As part of their itinerary, the Technical Team also had the privilege of paying a courtesy call on the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration. The Minister was represented by her Special Advisor, Amb. Kwabena Osei-Danquah, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration on Monday, 15th May 2023.
During the meeting, Amb. Abdel-Fatau Musah praised the exemplary leadership of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of the Republic of Ghana, for spearheading the Accra Initiative and for his pan-Africanist vision in hosting the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The discussions between the two sides centered on various critical matters, including the collaboration between the ECOWAS Commission and the Accra Initiative in the collective effort to combat terrorism in the region. Additionally, they deliberated on strategies to secure funding for the Accra Initiative, which plays a significant role in promoting peace and stability.
Amb. Abdel-Fatau Musah reassured Ghana of the unwavering support of the ECOWAS Commission towards the Accra Initiative. He emphasized the Commission's commitment to strengthening the partnership by finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that would further enhance the collaboration between ECOWAS and the Accra Initiative.
