Arise Ghana, a pressure group, is set to initiate a protest today, December 6, 2022, to highlight the prevailing economic hardships in the country.
The group emphasizes that the protest will persist until Parliament concludes the debate on the 2023 budget and finalizes the motion of censure against Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
Initially scheduled to picket from November 15 to 17, 2022, at the Revolution Square, located opposite the Jubilee House, the group faced a legal impediment.
The Ghana Police Service secured an injunction on the event, asserting that the chosen venue poses a national security threat.
The police contended that, based on National Security and Police Security Intelligence assessments, converging at the Revolution Square would endanger public safety and infringe upon the rights and freedom of others.
Despite the initial setback, Arise Ghana is determined to proceed with its planned protest. Bernard Mornah, a leading member of the group, revealed in an interview with Citi News that the protest is scheduled to commence at 8:00 am and conclude at 2:00 pm.
“We are embarking on picketing around Parliament and the yet-to-be-constructed National Cathedral. We have informed the police about it. So, as for Tuesday, it has been agreed that nothing will stop us because of the cordial discussions with the police,” Mornah explained.
