Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a 39-year-old driver, Nurudeen Abddulai, to 15 years in prison for stealing secured file transfer protocol (SFTP) network cables valued at GH¢50,000 belonging to INNOVA DDB Ghana. Abdulai was charged with unlawful entry and stealing, initially pleading not guilty.
After a lengthy trial, the Court presided over by Mr. Jojo Amoah Hagan, found him guilty, and he was sentenced accordingly. The facts presented by Police Chief Inspector Issaka Habbib revealed that Emmanuel Sentre, the complainant and an IT technician at INNOVA DDB advertising firm in Kanda, reported the theft.
On November 16, 2022, at approximately 1900 hours, Abdulai allegedly infiltrated the premises of the firm and entered the server room of a newly built two-storey office space. Using a knife, he cut and damaged the SFTP network cable extensions, which were used to wire the entire office space, and placed them in a sack.
A witness at the scene spotted Abdulai, raised an alarm, and gave chase. Abdulai attempted to escape but was apprehended and taken to the Nima Police Station. A formal complaint was lodged, and the sack containing the damaged SFTP network cables was retrieved for evidential purposes. The court, after considering the evidence, sentenced Abdulai to 15 years in prison for his actions.
