In a bid to combat within the judicial system, Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo has urged the public to report instances of court officials demanding unauthorized payments for services.

Emphasizing that all court personnel receive government salaries, she advised court patrons not to succumb to such requests.

The Chief Justice made these remarks during the inauguration of the Kotobabi District Court in the Greater Region, part of the government's 100 Courthouses program aimed at enhancing judicial infrastructure.

The newly established court, a product of the 2020 initiative, features modern facilities and a designated space for Court Connected Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).

Chief Justice Torkornoo used the occasion to launch a community sensitization program titled “Improving Justice Delivery Through Community Engagement,” aiming to educate the public on court processes and functions.

While emphasizing the importance of professionalism among court staff, she noted the acute need for appropriate infrastructure at the district level.

The Chief Justice believes that addressing challenges to access justice is crucial for maintaining confidence in legal institutions and ensuring peace, security, and investor confidence.

Mr. Achibald Mac Amuasi Cobbina, the Municipal Chief Executive Officer, expressed satisfaction with the establishment of the court, describing it as the “decentralization of justice.”

He highlighted the positive impact on the community, reducing the need for residents to travel long distances for legal proceedings. Mr. Cobbina pledged ongoing support to ensure the regular maintenance of the court facility.
