The Anlo Dukor Council has formally petitioned the Speaker of Parliament to help identify the Member of Parliament who allegedly made a defamatory remark directed at Hon. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings during the approval session of vetted ministers on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
The petition, signed by Togbi Agbesi Awusu III, Awadada of Anlo Dukor, on behalf of the Awoamefia, Togbi Sri III, and the Chiefs and people of Anloland, expresses deep concern over the alleged utterance, which has sparked outrage among the people of Anlo.
According to the petition, an MP was heard shouting, “Shut up—you daughter of a murderer!” in what appeared to be a direct attack on Hon. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings, the eldest daughter of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, an esteemed figure in Anloland. The remark, made during a heated debate in Parliament over the approval of Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, was broadcast live on television and radio, drawing the attention of Ghanaians at home and abroad.
Earlier reports suggested that the remark might have come from Hon. Abu Jinapor, MP for Damango, or Hon. Nana Kwame Asafo-Adjei, MP for Bosome Freho. However, both lawmakers have denied making the statement.
In the petition, the Anlo Dukor Council urged the Speaker of Parliament to identify the MP responsible for the remark by February 10, 2025, to enable them to determine their next course of action. The council described the incident as unfortunate and emphasized the need for accountability in Ghana’s legislative house.
The petition was copied to key stakeholders, including the Awoamefia, Togbi Sri III, Hon. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings, Hon. Abu Jinapor, Hon. Nana Kwame Asafo-Adjei, and various press houses.
The Anlo Dukor Council awaits a response from the Speaker as calls for decorum and discipline in Ghana’s Parliament continue to grow.
