The Circuit Court at Dormaa-Ahenkro in the Bono Region has sentenced a 28-year-old unemployed man, Ernest Appiah, to two years’ imprisonment with hard labour for stealing a pair of slippers, cash and other items.
Appiah pleaded guilty to three charges of causing unlawful damage, unlawful entry and stealing, and was convicted on his own plea.

Police Inspector Emmanuel Asare told the court that the complainant, a trader and farmer, was a relative of the convict and lived with him at ABB, a suburb of Dormaa-Ahenkro.
According to the prosecution, the complainant had previously received reports that Appiah had been stealing and had warned him to stop.
On May 28, 2022, the complainant returned home from the market and discovered that GH¢80 in cash and a pair of Berk slippers valued at GH¢70, which had been kept in a backpack in her room, were missing.
Investigations revealed that Appiah allegedly used a kitchen knife to force open the complainant’s window, damaging the window lock valued at GH¢60 before stealing the items.
The prosecution further told the court that on June 3, 2022, Appiah returned to the house and stole a bag of charcoal worth GH¢60.
Following the incident, some youth in the community attacked and assaulted Appiah after arresting him. Police officers later rescued him from a possible lynching after responding to a distress call.
During police interrogation, Appiah admitted to the offences, stating that he resorted to stealing to feed himself and buy clothes.
