Seven Suspects Arrested After Armed Robbery and Hijacking of Fuel Tanker Carrying 400 Litres at Teacher Mante in Eastern Region The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with the robbery and hijacking of a fuel tanker loaded with 400 litres of fuel at Teacher Mante, near Suhum in the Eastern Region. Preliminary investigations revealed that on August 7, 2025, the suspects, travelling in a green pickup truck, intercepted the tanker with registration number GT 2403-20 and forcibly took control of it. The driver and his mate were reportedly handcuffed and placed in the pickup while two of the suspects drove the tanker away. Later that day, police in the Accra Region intercepted the pickup and rescued the victims. The suspect in the vehicle, identified as Christian Bortey Bernard, was arrested. Further intelligence led officers to a fuel filling station at Bunso Junction, where the stolen tanker was found alongside another tanker with registration number GN 104-13. Six additional suspects — Mark Alito, 34, Shaibu Adam, 27, Asini Brahim, 24, Maris Aye, 19, Barnabas Anga, 26, and Abdullah Ganto, 32 — were arrested. Police also retrieved two tanker pumping machines and a Golf car with registration number GW 3135-17. The suspects are currently assisting with investigations. The Accra Regional Police Command has urged the public, especially drivers and transport operators, to remain vigilant and report suspicious vehicles to the nearest police station. It also warned individuals and groups engaging in criminal activities that the Police will pursue offenders and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. The statement was signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs, Accra Region.
