The Paramount Chief of the Pusiga Traditional Area in the Upper East Region, Naba Tambiis-baaluk-Kunwiak Ibrahim Aguuri I, has called for 24-hour security protection following a joint military and police operation at his palace.
The security operation was carried out on Wednesday after an attack at Buabula in the Bawku Municipality, where three military officers were injured and two civilians were killed.

According to the security agencies, intelligence suggested that suspects involved in the attack were hiding at the chief’s palace. However, the search did not result in any arrests at the premises.
Ten suspects were arrested during the broader operation and are expected to be processed for court.
Addressing a press conference in Pusiga, Naba Aguuri I described the search as an attempt to embarrass the people of Pusiga and demanded an immediate investigation into the incident.
He also called on the military and police to render an unqualified apology and urged the security agencies to rely on modern intelligence-gathering methods in future operations.
Pusiga District Chief Executive Zubeiru Abdulai said the District Security Council would meet urgently to review measures aimed at strengthening security in the area.
Meanwhile, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Joseph Osei-Owusu directed the Ministers for National Security, Defence and the Interior to urgently brief Parliament on the security situation in Bawku.
The Bawku Municipality has experienced recurring violence since November 2021 over a longstanding chieftaincy dispute. The conflict has claimed more than 45 lives and left many others injured.
A dusk-to-dawn curfew remains in force in Bawku and surrounding communities, alongside a ban on motorcycle riding and the wearing of smocks within the municipality.
The government has maintained that the chieftaincy dispute was settled by the Supreme Court in 2003 and has urged all parties to respect the court’s ruling.
