Police seize suspected cannabis in Techiman after road accident

The Ghana Police Service in the Bono East Region has seized a large quantity of suspected narcotic drugs following a road accident in Techiman.

According to the Bono East Regional Police Command, the incident occurred on March 8, 2026, when a tricycle rider identified as Robert Tannor, aged 48, was involved in an accident near the Methodist Park area of the town.

Police said they received information around 2:00 p.m. about a crash involving an unregistered Motor King tricycle, popularly known as an “aboboyaa,” which had run into a stationary Kia Rhino truck.

Officers who responded to the scene discovered that the tricycle was carrying 14 bags of charcoal. However, a search of the bags revealed 397 compressed slabs of dried plant material suspected to be cannabis concealed within the charcoal.

The suspect rider sustained severe leg injuries in the crash and was rushed to the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman for medical treatment. He is currently under police guard while investigations continue.

Police say the driver of the Kia Rhino truck fled the scene immediately after the accident. Authorities are therefore appealing to the public to assist with information that could help trace the driver to aid in ongoing investigations.

The Ghana Police Service says further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
