The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects in connection with the death of a U.S. citizen, Julie Diane Williams, who was found unconscious in a hotel room in Abelemkpe, Accra, on December 14, 2021.
Police said the suspects are assisting with investigations while authorities await the full autopsy report, including toxicology and histopathology results, to determine the cause of death.

Investigations revealed that Williams arrived in Ghana from Nigeria on December 3, 2021, and was placed in COVID-19 isolation after testing positive on arrival. She was later picked up by acquaintances, visited a restaurant, and checked into the Rayporsh Hotel.
Hotel records indicate she briefly checked out on December 12 to return to Nigeria but was unable to travel due to visa issues and subsequently checked back into the hotel. Two days later, hotel staff found her unconscious in her room, and she was pronounced dead at the Police Hospital.
The police said the deceased’s family and the U.S. Embassy have been kept informed of the investigation and assured the public that a thorough inquiry is underway.
