The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a teacher of Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School, Eric Buernortey Apaflo, in connection with the alleged assault of a female student captured in a viral video.
According to a police statement, the 39-year-old suspect was arrested by a Nyinahin District Police Patrol Team on June 8, 2026, following reports of an assault on an 18-year-old student, Patience Chibu.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Mr Apaflo, who serves as a caretaker at the school’s hostel, confronted the student and other male students over alleged misconduct in the hostel.
Police said a misunderstanding ensued during the confrontation, resulting in the suspect allegedly assaulting the student.
The incident reportedly angered some students, who pelted stones at the suspect and invited some youth from the town to the school hostel in an attempt to attack him.
The police said the situation was brought under control through the timely intervention of a patrol team.
A Police Medical Report Form has been issued to the victim for medical examination and treatment, while the suspect remains in police custody, assisting with the investigation.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has urged the public to remain calm and use lawful and peaceful means to resolve grievances and disputes.
