According to police, the incident occurred on March 20, 2022, following intelligence that a group of armed men from Manso Abodom were planning to attack a mining site at Manso Akwasiso to rob the owner of gold concentrate.

Acting on the information, officers from the Manso Adubia District mounted a coordinated operation and laid an ambush at the site.

At about 5:30 p.m. that day, four armed men reportedly stormed the site, fired indiscriminately and made away with gold concentrate belonging to the miners. Police personnel on surveillance intervened, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

Three of the suspects ,Abu Abubakar, Musah Latif and Gideon Takyi ,sustained gunshot wounds during the confrontation and were pronounced dead on arrival at St. Martin’s Catholic Hospital at Agroyesum.

Dominic Ofori managed to escape at the time but was later apprehended and prosecuted.

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to combating violent crime and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice, urging the public to continue supporting law enforcement efforts with timely and credible information.
