Accra Court grants GHC100,000 bail to man accused of defrauding businessman of GHC120,000

An Accra Circuit Court has granted bail to a 27-year-old unemployed man accused of defrauding a businessman of GHC120,000 under the guise of supplying 40 Apple MacBook laptops.

The accused, Emmanuel Kofi Dawu, who also goes by the name Daniel Adjei, was admitted to bail in the sum of GHC100,000 with two sureties, one of whom must justify the bail with a landed property located within the court’s jurisdiction. Dawu has pleaded not guilty.

According to the prosecution, led by Police Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori-Appiah, the complainant, Mr Michael Owusu Gyekye of North Kaneshie, contacted Dawu in July 2025 after a referral from another client.

Dawu allegedly presented himself as Daniel Adjei and claimed he had access to 40 MacBooks through a colleague in the United States.

He reportedly provided a mobile money number registered in the same name, and all payments, including a final instalment of GHC40,000 in September, were made via Mobile Money.

However, after receiving the full amount, Dawu allegedly went into hiding and blocked all communication with the complainant. Police investigations eventually led to his arrest at Lomnava, Sowutoum, where it was discovered that he used the false identity “Daniel Adjei” to facilitate the deal.

He has been arraigned and is expected to reappear before the court, presided over by Madam Basilia Adjei-Tawiah, on December 3.
