23-year-old unemployed man, Rashid Cidi, has been sentenced to four years’ imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court after pleading guilty to causing harm in an attack on a senior police officer at McCarthy Hills in Accra.

Presided over by Mrs Evelyn Asamoah, the court convicted Cidi on his own plea following prosecution’s account of how he repeatedly stabbed Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Samuel A. Boah on the back with a jack knife.

Chief Inspector Jonas Lawer told the court that the complainant and the accused lived in the same neighbourhood, where Cidi was known for engaging in prohibited drugs and terrorising residents.

On July 7, 2025, he reportedly attempted to attack the police officer without provocation. ASP Boah, who was armed with his service pistol, fired a warning shot to restrain him, prompting Cidi to flee.

The prosecution said Cidi returned the following morning while the officer was escorting his children to school. Armed with a jack knife, he pounced on him and stabbed him multiple times in the back.

The officer sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Police Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.

The jack knife used in the attack was later retrieved at the scene.

Cidi allegedly went into hiding after the incident until his arrest on November 17, 2025. During investigations, he identified the knife as the weapon he used in the assault.
