The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has announced its plan to deploy 15 election-day observers for the upcoming Assin North by-election in the Central Region.
The by-election is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.
In a statement signed by Mr Albert Arhin, National Coordinator of CODEO, the deployment of observers aligns with the organization's mandate to encourage active citizen participation in the electoral process and support the Electoral Commission‘s efforts in ensuring transparent, free, fair, and peaceful elections.
According to the statement, on election day, CODEO will deploy 13 Stationed Observers (SOs) to 13 polling stations within 12 purposefully selected electoral areas.
Additionally, there will be two Roaming Observers, with one of them assigned to observe the proceedings at the Collation Centre. The observers will monitor the polling station set-up, voting and counting procedures, and report any incidents they observe throughout the day.
All CODEO observers will be identifiable by their CODEO-branded jackets and accreditation tags, as stated in the statement.
CODEO appealed to all contesting political leaders and their supporters to make every effort to ensure a peaceful election. It also urged the Electoral Commission, polling officials, returning officers, and presiding officers to uphold the electoral rules in an impartial and objective manner.
The statement concluded by requesting polling agents to respect the EC code of conduct and act responsibly on the polling day by assisting EC officials in effectively and efficiently executing their duties.
