Cecilia Dapaah’s legal woes mount as OSP charges her for failure to declare assets

The () has filed charges against former Sanitation Minister for failing to comply with a directive to declare her assets and money.

Cecilia Dapaah is currently under investigation by the OSP in connection with substantial sums of foreign and local currencies discovered at her residence and in her bank accounts.

The charges relate to her refusal to provide the OSP with documents for declaring her property and income since July 24, 2023. She has been charged with one count of failing to comply with a lawful demand from an authorized officer of the OSP.

The charge sheet, as seen by , states, “The accused was, until 22 July 2023, the Minister for . She is a suspect under investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor for and corruption-related offences, including using public office for profit in respect of suspected tainted large cash sums reportedly stolen from her residential premises and also retrieved from the same by the Office of the Special Prosecutor.”

It further explains, “The evidence will establish that on 24 July 2023, the Special Prosecutor, in the performance of his functions, served on the accused a notice to declare her property and income under regulation 20(1) per Forms 11A and 11B of the First Schedule of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (Operations) Regulations, 2018 (L.I. 2374).”

According to the charge sheet, Dapaah was duly notified of her legal obligation to make specified declarations and return them to the OSP within thirty (30) days of receiving the notice.

However, as of October 5, 2023, she had willfully failed to return the completed statutory forms to the OSP, more than thirty (30) days after receiving the notice.

Dapaah gained public attention in July 2023 when it was revealed that two of her house helps were facing an for allegedly stealing money and items amounting to millions of Ghana Cedis.

Subsequently, calls were made for her resignation and investigation, which led to her stepping down from her position on July 22, 2023.
