The bank accounts of former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Abena Dapaah, who is facing allegations of theft, have been frozen by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
While the OSP has the authority to administratively freeze accounts, court approval is needed for a prolonged freeze.
Sources indicate that Dapaah‘s accounts hold substantial amounts in both US dollars and Ghana cedis. Funds were also reportedly recovered from searches of her residences. The OSP has filed a motion to seize the funds discovered during the residence search.
In a related case, a Circuit Court in Accra remanded five of the seven accused individuals, including two house helps, Patience Botwe and Sarah Agyei, who are facing charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and stealing.
Allegedly, between July and October 2022, they stole items and cash from Dapaah's residence, including clothing, accessories, and money.
Dapaah's resignation led to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo appointing Freda Prempeh, Minister of State at the Presidency and Member of Parliament for Tano North, as the new Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources.
