The Business Senior High School (BISCO) in Tamale recently commemorated its 60th Anniversary, celebrating its legacy of providing impactful education in Northern Ghana. Under the theme “BISCO@60: The Beacon of Business Education in Northern Ghana,” the event aimed to acknowledge past achievements, address current challenges, and explore future opportunities for development.
Mr Alhassan Adam Mubarak, the Headmaster of BISCO, highlighted the school’s significant contributions to business education and overall student development in the Northern Region over the years. He noted the school’s commendable performance in the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examinations, as well as its success in sports and community challenges.
Despite these achievements, Mr Mubarak outlined several challenges faced by the school, including the lack of essential facilities such as transportation, an assembly hall, adequate water supply, and sufficient toilet facilities. He appealed to various stakeholders, including the government, alumni, philanthropists, and NGOs, to support the school in overcoming these obstacles and fostering effective teaching and learning environments.
Hajia Katumi Nantogmah Attah, the Northern Regional Director of Education, praised BISCO’s transformation into an educational powerhouse, nurturing skilled professionals in business and other fields. She called on all stakeholders to rally behind the school’s mission of preparing the next generation of business leaders and entrepreneurs.
Representing Naa Alhassan Andani, the Chief of Pushigu, at the event, emphasized the importance of embracing innovation and inclusivity to equip students for the challenges of the 21st century. He encouraged students to honour the school’s legacy and carry it forward with pride.
Established in 1963 as the Northern College of Commerce, BISCO has grown from a private institution with just one student to a public school serving over 3,000 students in various programs, including Home Economics, Business, Agricultural Science, and General Science.
