The Upper Denkyira West District is moving ahead with plans to establish a 24-Hour Economy market, aimed at transforming the district into a vibrant, round-the-clock commercial hub.
Speaking on the initiative, District Chief Executive Isaac Nsiah said a market has been secured and will be upgraded to meet the standards of the 24-Hour Economy project. Key focus areas include transport, pharmaceutical supply chains, and financial services, which will support night-time business operations.

Plans are underway to improve road networks and shuttle services, particularly along the busy Dunkwa–Diaso Corridor, with better lighting, rest stops, and fuel stations to ensure safe and efficient movement for traders, farmers, and commuters.
The initiative will also expand health services, with pharmacies providing late-shift operations and collaborations with pharmaceutical companies to strengthen local health infrastructure. Madam Abena Kumi, a health practitioner, highlighted that continuous access to drugs will save lives and create opportunities for young pharmacists.
Financial services will be extended to support the night economy, with rural banks, mobile money operators, and digital banking platforms ensuring seamless cashless transactions at all hours. Madam Felicia Mensah, a local banker, emphasised the importance of financial literacy programs to empower traders and farmers to manage their earnings effectively.
Authorities expect the 24-Hour Economy to create jobs for transport operators, pharmacists, bankers, and entrepreneurs, boost investment, and reduce rural-urban migration by offering sustainable local opportunities.
The Upper Denkyira West District is positioning itself as a model for round-the-clock commerce in Ghana, demonstrating that continuous economic activity is both feasible and profitable.
