President John Dramani Mahama has emphasized the need for stronger international partnerships, particularly with China, to help Ghana navigate its economic challenges and drive sustainable development.
Speaking at the Chinese Lantern Festival Gala at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Sunday, February 9, 2025, he highlighted China’s role as a key development partner and stressed the importance of global cooperation in overcoming economic uncertainties.

“Ghana, like many other nations, is working hard to address economic and social challenges, and we’re grateful for the support of our friends and partners, including China,” he stated.
Mahama noted that Ghana’s economic recovery requires not only internal policy adjustments but also strong diplomatic and trade relations. He reiterated that China has been instrumental in supporting Ghana’s infrastructure, trade, and technological advancement.
“As we move forward, we must continue to embrace cooperation and mutual respect, ensuring that the benefits of our partnerships are shared by all our people,” he added.
He also reflected on the symbolic significance of the Lantern Festival, drawing a parallel between its message of hope and Ghana’s economic journey.
“The world today faces many challenges—economic uncertainty, global conflicts, climate change, and emerging health concerns. Yet, the light of this festival reminds us that even in times of darkness, hope must never be lost,” he remarked.
President Mahama’s call for deeper ties with China comes at a time when Ghana is implementing economic reforms to stabilize the economy. His administration continues to pursue international collaborations to attract investment and drive national growth.
