Jinapor urges investors to explore Ghana’s bauxite and aluminium opportunities

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has encouraged investors to take advantage of opportunities in Ghana’s bauxite downstream industry as the country works to develop an integrated aluminium industry.

Speaking at the Bauxite and Alumina Conference in Miami, United States, Mr. Jinapor said aluminium has become a strategic mineral globally due to the growing demand for materials that support the transition to cleaner energy.

He explained that the conference provided an opportunity to promote Ghana’s Integrated Aluminium Industry Policy and attract investment into the entire value chain, including bauxite mining, refining, smelting and downstream production.

The Damongo Member of Parliament assured investors that Ghana’s democratic stability, strong institutions, respect for the rule of law and business-friendly environment make the country ready for investment.

Mr. Jinapor said the government remains committed to achieving President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s vision of building a fully integrated aluminium industry that creates jobs, develops local skills and contributes to economic transformation.

He noted that the establishment of the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) in 2017 was aimed at ensuring that Ghana’s bauxite resources are refined locally instead of being exported in their raw form.

The Chief Executive Officer of GIADEC, Michael Ansah, also stressed the importance of using Ghana’s mineral resources to support local industries and achieve sustainable economic development while protecting the environment and surrounding communities.
