The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has closed four branches of Palace Mall for failing to comply with the Authority’s electronic Value Added Tax (E-VAT) invoicing system.
The enforcement exercise, carried out on Tuesday, October 11, affected the retailer’s branches at Labone, Spintex, Atomic Roundabout and Weija.

According to the GRA, the affected outlets failed to issue electronic VAT invoices to customers despite directives requiring businesses to use the E-VAT system for all taxable transactions.
The Authority said the failure to issue electronic VAT invoices raises concerns that businesses may be under-declaring their tax liabilities.
Speaking after the closure, the Area Manager of the GRA’s Accra Central Office, Joseph Annan, warned the management of the affected branches against breaking or tampering with the Commissioner’s official seals placed on the premises.
He cautioned that any attempt to remove or interfere with the seals without authorisation could worsen the businesses’ legal and tax-related challenges.
The GRA has in recent years intensified enforcement of the E-VAT invoicing system as part of efforts to improve tax compliance, reduce revenue leakages and enhance domestic revenue mobilisation.
