Government to hold second E-Levy town hall meeting in Takoradi

The government will today hold its second town hall meeting on the proposed Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) in Takoradi in the Western Region.

The event follows the maiden public engagement held in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital, last week.

The meeting will feature Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Western Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, Central Regional Minister Justina Marigold Assan, and Sekondi MP Andrew Egyapa Mercer.

According to the government, the town hall meetings are intended to explain the objectives and benefits of the E-Levy to the public while gathering feedback from stakeholders.

The government says the views collected during the engagements will help shape the implementation of the levy.

The E-Levy is a tax measure introduced in the 2022 Budget to apply to selected electronic transactions and digital payments.

Under the proposal, a 1.75 percent levy will be charged on electronic transactions exceeding GH¢100 in a day.

Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has maintained that the government is committed to implementing the levy, describing it as a key measure to promote burden-sharing and generate revenue for Ghana’s development.
