Bola Tinubu calls for unity as he wins Nigeria’s presidential election.

, 's President-elect, has called for unity in a speech to his jubilant supporters after emerging victorious in the country's recent election.

Tinubu, the former governor of Lagos, expressed his desire to work towards making Nigeria a great nation.

He secured nearly nine million votes, two million more than his closest rival, on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, the country's ruling party. Opposition parties have rejected the results, alleging manipulation of the outcome of the poll.

The slow pace of vote counting and tallying has generated widespread concern, but the has dismissed the accusations of vote tampering.

Buhari, Tinubu's predecessor, is stepping down after serving two terms and retiring at the age of 80.

The All Progressives Congress party has thanked Nigerians for voting for Tinubu, but opposition parties have contested the election outcome.

Tinubu won 8,794,726 votes, representing 37% of the total votes counted, according to official results.

The elections were Nigeria's most hotly contested since the reintroduction of multiparty democracy in 1999.

The ruling party tweeted its gratitude to Nigerians for electing Tinubu as the President-elect of Nigeria, describing him as “Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
