The Black Stars need a victory to enhance their chances of progressing to the knockout rounds.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Hughton emphasized the significance of the upcoming game and stressed the players' preparedness for a tough match against the Mambas of Mozambique.
He acknowledged the challenging nature of the AFCON, stating, “There are no easy games at this AFCON.”
Hughton highlighted the importance of a top performance to secure a win, recognizing the motivation derived from their previous match against Egypt.
He noted, “Our preparations have been the same as our two games, and we are prepared for a very tough match.”
Addressing the team's mindset and potential concerns about past performances, especially group stage exits, Hughton stated, “We are aware of what happened in the past, and some players were involved in that. But these players are used to bouncing back and looking forward.”
The Black Stars aim to break a six-match winless streak against Mozambique, who have struggled defensively, conceding at least two goals in all 14 AFCON matches played.
The match is scheduled to take place at the Olympic Stadium of Ebimpe in Abidjan on Monday, January 22, 2024.
