Bessa Simons, a veteran Highlife Musician, has been elected as the President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA).

In a landslide victory, he secured 324 votes out of the 390 valid votes cast, surpassing his sole contender, Ras Caleb Appiah Levi, who received 66 votes.

The election also saw Gospel Musician Abena Ruthy elected as the 2nd Vice President with 277 votes, and Samuel Kofi Agyemang won the General Secretary position with 343 votes.

Candidates for the First Vice President, Treasurer, Welfare, and Organiser positions were unopposed.

The MUSIGA elections had faced multiple postponements due to legal disputes.

Mr. Bessa Simons had been acting as the Union's President until the elections finally took place on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.

Bessa Simons, a prolific songwriter, keyboardist, and singer, is renowned for his work with some of the West African music industry's greatest names, including Pat Thomas, Papa Yankson, Osibisa, C.K. Mann, and Ebo Taylor.

He comes from a family of musicians, with his father being a Choir Master, Organist, and Music Teacher.

Bessa's dedication to the welfare of musicians and the elevation of MUSIGA is well endorsed by his resounding victory.

His extensive experience and passion for the industry make him a notable figure to lead the Union into the future.
