Tension has escalated in Bawku following the tragic killing of a woman and her two children by gunmen reportedly dressed in military uniforms. The attack occurred at Tensungo, near a military camp in Bawku township, in the early hours of February 9, 2025.
The latest killings bring the total number of deaths linked to the ongoing chieftaincy conflict in Bawku to 45 since the resurgence of violence in October 2024. The most recent incident before this was on January 25, when a 13-year-old boy was shot dead at the same location.
Assemblymember for the Tensungo Electoral Area, Mohammed Saani, confirmed the attack to Citi News, stating that security forces have been informed, and the victims’ bodies have been deposited at the morgue after a medical examination.
“Around 2 AM this morning, a gunman entered a house and killed a woman and her two children,” he said. “The family alleges that the gunman was in uniform, and they believe he will be back to commit more atrocities.”
The latest violence has shattered two weeks of relative calm in the conflict-prone town, deepening fears of further attacks. Security forces have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
