Salamu Amadu, the Chief Executive Officer of the Afro-Arab Group of Companies, has expressed interest in the controversial Saglemi Housing Project and appealed to the government to consider selling the abandoned project to him.
In an upcoming interview with KSM, Amadu pledged to complete the housing units as soon as possible to provide the population with much-needed shelter.
Amadu believes that shelter is a fundamental human right and cannot stand idly by when the buildings constructed under the Saglemi Housing Project remain unused.
He emphasized that houses are more than mere structures; they are vital spaces that provide shelter, comfort, and security.
“I urge the government to sell the Saglemi housing project to me so we can transform these unfinished houses into comfortable homes for our fellow Ghanaians,” he stated.
Amadu revealed the emotional impact the current state of the Saglemi Housing Project has on him, saying, “Each time I see the unfinished houses, my heart aches.”
He noted the urgent need for quality housing solutions, especially after many were displaced due to the flooding incident caused by the spillage of the Akosombo Dam.
He sees an opportunity to revitalize the Saglemi housing project, providing affordable and quality homes for Ghanaians.
Saglemi Housing Project
The contractor who executed the project, Andrew Clocanas, is currently facing trial for allegedly causing financial loss to the state over the botched project.
Other accused persons include Dr. Kwaku Agyeman-Mensah, a former Minister of Water Resources, Works, and Housing, Alhaji Ziblim Yakubu, Executive Chairman of Construtora OAS Ghana Limited, and Nouvi Tetteh Angelo, CEO, and owner of Ridge Management Solutions Ghana Limited. They are standing trial over the Saglemi Affordable Housing Project and face a total of 70 charges.
The accused individuals are alleged to have willfully caused financial loss to the state over the approved $200 million budget for the project. All the accused parties have pleaded not guilty and have been granted bail.
