Ahead of the National Democratic Congress () parliamentary primaries slated for Saturday, May 13, 2023, Mr Abdul Malik Jeleel, the Chairman of the Convention People's Party () in the Adentan Constituency, has urged aspirants to maintain peace.

In an interview, Mr Jeleel noted that failure on the part of the aspirants to control their supporters could “spell doom” for the Party and called on the Party's leadership to intensify security measures on voting day.

The Adentan constituency has three aspirants competing for the parliamentary seat: the incumbent MP, Mohammed Adamu , former Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, and youth activist, Linda Asibi Awuni.

The Chairman advised the aspirants to engage their supporters to conduct themselves properly before and during the elections to prevent any form of electoral violence, stating that “internal elections are part and parcel of our democratic principles, but care should be taken not to jeopardize our national peace and security.”

Mr Jeleel also disclosed that the CPP is putting measures in place to capture the Adentan seat in the 2024 general elections, saying that the people are looking for an alternative that will deliver solid development.

He added that a seat that swings means the people lack absolute confidence in the two political parties that field the candidates.
