Accused farmer granted bail in robbery case involving gun threat

A 28-year-old farmer, Yakubu Iddrisu, accused of attempting to snatch a Volkswagen Polo car at gunpoint, has been granted bail by an Circuit Court.

The farmer allegedly pulled out a pistol and forcibly took the driver's mobile phone, ignition key, and money. An accomplice, who reportedly brandished a cutlass during the incident, is currently on the run. Iddrisu, charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit a crime, pleaded not guilty.

The court, after hearing the defence counsel's request for bail, granted the accused GH¢300,000 bail with two sureties, one of whom must be a public servant. The prosecution presented the facts, indicating that the complainant, a driver offering Uber services, picked up the accused and his accomplice. Iddrisu allegedly pointed a pistol at the driver, and the accomplice pulled a cutlass, demanding the surrender of items, including the ignition key and mobile phone.

The accused and his accomplice then fled with the vehicle but abandoned it later. The police arrested Iddrisu, while efforts were ongoing to locate the accomplice, who managed to escape. The case will continue to unfold as investigations progress.
