Organizers of the annual Accra Inter-City Homowo Marathon will introduce a dedicated short code on Tuesday, May 23, to facilitate participant registration for the race.
The purpose of the shortcode is to provide athletes and participants with a convenient and efficient platform for registration, as well as receive instant feedback upon completion.
The launch event will take place at Zimansky Hotel, located in Roman Ridge, Accra, at 11 am, according to a statement from the organizers.
Unlike previous editions, participants will now register using a unique shortcode developed by TXT Ghana, one of the event's partners.
The user-friendly short code will enable participants to select their preferred race category and make the necessary payment during the registration process.
Officials from Medivents Consult, Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Ghana Athletics, Ghana Traditional Council, sponsors, and the media are expected to attend the launch event.
Scheduled for Saturday, July 29, 2023, the Accra Inter-City Homowo Marathon will commence from the Accra Sports Stadium and conclude at Mantse Agbona in James Town.
More than 1,000 participants are anticipated to compete across various categories, including 21 kilometres, 10 kilometres, and 5 kilometres.
Additional races such as the wheelchair race, deaf race, and skating race will also be featured.
The headline sponsor of the event is Serene Insurance Ghana Limited, with HD Plus, Allied Consortiums, Parin Africa, mybet.Africa.com, Aqua Blue Mineral Water, RekFoli Herbals, and Zimansky Hotel serving as sponsors.
Global Media Alliance, www.sportsnetghana.com, and The Inquisitor are the designated media partners for the Accra Inter-City Homowo Marathon.
This marathon is a significant part of the annual Homowo festival and coincides with the 125th Anniversary of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).
