Accra multi-agency ‘show of force’ security operation outlines Christmas-season readiness and strict conduct rules across major routes

A coordinated “show of force” security patrol unfolded in Accra as Ghana’s major security institutions mounted a unified demonstration of operational strength ahead of the Christmas period.

The briefing officer stressed that the mission was not designed to “intimidate or harass or inconvenience” the public, but rather to signal preparedness and highlight the high level of cooperation between agencies.

The operation brought together personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Prison Service, Ghana Fire Service, and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority.

Their vehicles moved in a standardised convoy sequence beginning with the military and ending with the police, emphasising equality and joint responsibility in maintaining national security.

Five teams, Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta and Echo were assigned to major access routes into the capital.

Team Alpha patrolled the Kasoa road toward Odumase; Bravo moved along the Aburi road to Aburi; Charlie took the Nsawam route toward Kumasi; Delta proceeded along the Aflao road to Dawhenya; and Echo covered the Akosombo road to Adenta.

Commanders confirmed their teams had been fully briefed before deployment.

Clear rules of engagement were laid out. Personnel were reminded to uphold the “highest standard of discipline and professionalism,” with a strict speed limit of 40 km/h across all convoys.

The carrying of live ammunition was tightly controlled; only the designated escort teams were authorised to have live rounds, underscoring efforts to safeguard public confidence during the patrol.

Each convoy operated as a self-contained unit, equipped with a fully armed escort, a dedicated medical team capable of handling emergencies, and welfare provisions including vehicle-assigned water supplies and scheduled refreshments upon return.

The logistical structure reflected an emphasis on safety, readiness and team cohesion.

The day’s sequence began with a joint briefing at the assembly square, before personnel were given a 10-minute preparation window ahead of an on-time departure at 9:45 a.m.

After completing their respective patrols, all teams were instructed to return to the square and park in their original formation, where they would receive final remarks from the service commanders.

The operation underscored the intent to project unity, competence and visibility at a time of heightened national activity, reassuring citizens of the collective capability of Ghana’s security services during the festive season.
