Delta Air Lines launches expanded seasonal Accra–Atlanta service to meet holiday travel demand and strengthen US–Ghana connections

Delta Air Lines has officially launched its expanded seasonal Accra–Atlanta service with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra, marking a significant boost in connectivity between Ghana and the United States.

The daily flights, first announced earlier this year, will operate for six weeks through January 16, responding to strong travel demand during the peak December–January holiday period, according to a release from Kingdom Concepts Consult shared with the Ghana News Agency.

“The new service adds to Delta’s year-round daily flights from New York-JFK, offering greater flexibility for both business and leisure travellers,” the release stated.

At the launch, Mr Rolf Olson, Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Ghana, highlighted that the route symbolises a strengthening partnership between Ghana and the United States.

“More than a convenient connection, this route opens doors for economic growth, cultural exchange, and collaboration, providing new pathways for people to engage across continents,” he said.

Mrs Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), commended Delta for the expanded service, reiterating the airport’s commitment to working with the airline to deliver “a seamless, world-class experience for travellers” and enhance Ghana’s prominence in global aviation.

Reverend Stephen Wilfred Arthur, Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, also welcomed the new service, expressing optimism about its impact.

“We wish Delta Air Lines the very best as they operate this service and believe that they will put smiles on the faces of families, friends, loved ones, officials, and the like,” he said.

Mrs Marilyn Maame Efua Houadjeto, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, praised the route for promoting tourism and deepening cultural ties.

“We thank Delta for this renewed commitment to Ghana and for affirming, once again, that Ghana is a central hub on the world map. At GTA, we see this flight as the perfect doorway into an unforgettable December season that will showcase the heartbeat of our nation, our culture, music, food, creativity, and spirit,” she stated.

The Accra, Atlanta flights will operate on Delta’s Airbus A330-900neo, offering passengers an enhanced onboard experience. Delta One Suites feature fully lie-flat beds and chef-curated meals, while Delta Premium Select provides wider seats, deeper recline, and elevated dining.

Delta Comfort offers extra legroom and dedicated overhead bins, with Delta Main as the standard onboard experience. All passengers can access seatback entertainment featuring Nollywood, Hollywood, and international content, along with fast, free Wi-Fi for SkyMiles members.

Eloina Baddoo, Delta’s General Sales Agent Manager in Ghana, thanked industry stakeholders for their collaboration and trust, noting the seasonal timing is especially important for Ghanaians returning home to reunite with family and friends over the holidays.
